We also had someone in costume from Knaut Rhuland house, Stephen Ernst had a photography display, Hugh Corkum has a display of interesting old items from Lunenburg, Alan Browne had a working display of model boat building, the Mi’kmaq B R R Association had 3 artists works on display and for sale.

CTV’s Maritimer of the Week

Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic, Lunenburg

The SGSS honored one of it’s long time volunteers, Barbara Spindler, by submitting her name to the TV show CTV’s Live at Five for their Maritimer of the Week Award.

This award features volunteers who have contributed a great deal of time and energy as a volunteer.

A surprise for Barbara and many of the society members and Barbara’s family were in attendance.

General Meeting and Pot Luck in the Park 2009

The General Meeting of the Society was held at the Town Park in Bridgewater. It followed a wonderful supprt. After the meeting, Linda Bedford gave us a tour of the Desbrisay Museum.

The food was wonderful, the conversation was great and the tour of the museum was splendid.

This was definitely a General Meeting like we have never had before.

Family History Weekend Lunenburg 2007

Make Sail for Lunenburg – Climb Your Family Tree was held in Lunenburg on June 8th and 9th to coincide with the anniversary of the Founding of the Town of Lunenburg.

The South Shore Genealogy Society, in partnership with the Lunenburg Heritage Society and the Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic, hosted a Family History Weekend to promote the genealogy and heritage of Lunenburg and to encourage new and existing members involvement.

Maintenance and Preservation of Cemeteries Workshop 1999

 

On November 5, 1999, about 50 interested people, ranging from family historians to monument dealers, attended a day-long workshop held by the SSGS in Lunenburg.

This workshop was sponsored by NS Department of Tourism and Culture and the Town of Lunenburg.

Deborah Trask, Curator of Buildings, Museum Services, and Heather Lawson, Certified Restoration Stone Mason were the commentators and on-site demonstrators.
